Finally, an update!  Have been working for the past week to fit the ebony grip, and today finished doing the rough shaping.  All this made more difficult with my decision to interlock the designs of the guard, grip, and pommel.  Hopefully worth the effort.  Will start sculpting the guard tomorrow.

I usually don't post process picts, but since its been so long between finished pieces, here are some shots of the making of the hilt for a sword I've been working on for a while now.

The finished blade and steel blank for the pommel with pattern. At right, the guard getting drilled for the tang.

The full pattern with cross drilled pommel and guard (mild steel), ready for shaping.

The shaped guard, pommel and roughed grip, (final grip will be in ebony and purple heart), fitted to the blade. Next step: sculpting the steel!
